May E-Mewsletter

It's Kitten Season at HART, and we need your help!

We are in the throes of caring for many litters of kittens and their moms. Although we see litters of kittens throughout the year, Kitten Season is traditionally in the Spring, when the numbers increase substantially. Kittens may be tiny, but their care can be quite expensive. Costs for replacement milk, feeding bottles, medications, vaccinations, kitten food, and spay and neuter surgeries really add up.

How can you help?

Thanks to an extraordinary $52,000 gift from a generous donor, we’re raising our Spring Fundraiser goal to $100,000! These funds will help us care for the many kittens and cats who need us this season.

We're just $16,000 away from reaching our new goal...
can you help us get there by June 30th?

You can also donate much-needed supplies, take part in our Kitten Shower and adoption event, foster, volunteer, or sponsor a litter of kittens. Read on for all of the details!

HART receives no public funding—our work is only possible because of generous supporters like you. Your generosity ensures that the cats and kittens that come to HART can receive the care and attention they need.

Please give today to help us continue this vital work.

Kitten Shower & Adoption Event

Saturday, May 31st | 10 am - 1 pm

We’ve had a busy kitten season so far and anticipate more arrivals in the months ahead. The average cost to care for a litter of kittens and their mom can be upwards of $2,500. Already this year, we've taken in 13 momma cats and 80 kittens, and anticipate many more litters within the coming months.

Kitten Shower

Please help us continue to care and find forever homes for our kittens by contributing to our virtual and in-person Kitten Shower. We've added essential kitten supplies you can order from our wish lists on Amazon and Chewy, and we can always accept items dropped off at our shelter.

A few supplies we could use most include:

• Kitten food (Fancy Feast or Royal Canin Mother & Babycat)
• Small fleece or flannel blankets
• Toys and scratching posts for kittens
• Small flat feeding dishes
• Small metal litter pans with low sides

Adoption Event

Our Kitten Shower will culminate on Saturday, May 31st, from 10 am-1 pm with a Kitten Shower and Adoption event at HART, where we will be on-hand to accept your donations, answer questions about kitten fostering, and have kittens for you to meet!

If you want to adopt a kitten from HART, you must fill out and submit our adoption application in advance of the event. A member of our Kitten Team will review your application and contact you directly. Approved adopters will meet our available kittens on a first-come, first-served basis, according to arrival at the shelter on the morning of the event.

Please note we do not reserve kittens or process adoption inquiries via social media. HART requires that young kittens be adopted in pairs unless you have an existing kitten or young cat (6 years old or younger) at home. Our kittens live in local foster homes, not at the shelter.  For the health and safety of all of our cats and kittens, we adopt to indoor-only homes.

Kitten Fostering at HART

We always need loving foster homes for pregnant cats, moms with kittens, and orphaned babies. These little ones are some of the most vulnerable animals in the shelter, and fostering helps give them the best possible start.

Foster homes play a crucial role in helping kittens grow strong, stay healthy, and learn how to thrive with people, pets, and the routines of home life.

Fostering kittens is not only lifesaving—it’s also joyful, heartwarming, and a fun experience for the whole family.

To learn more about fostering at HART and to complete an application, please visit our website or email our Kitten Team directly for more information: kitten.team@hartofme.org.

Sponsor a Mom Cat and Her Kittens!

Mommy and Kittens Sponsorships are a powerful way to help HART provide refuge, comfort, and critical medical care to cats and kittens who have been surrendered, abandoned, injured, or abused, and to place each one in a loving home.

Sponsorships also make heartfelt gifts!
At checkout, you can choose to send the sponsorship packet by mail or email to a recipient of your choice and include a personal message—we’ll take care of the rest!

2025 Yard Sale Sponsorships

Support HART’s biggest fundraiser, gain community exposure, and help cats in need!

HART’s Yard Sale fills the 10,000-square-foot Exhibition Hall at the Cumberland Fairgrounds with community-donated treasures. In 2024, we raised a record $80,000 to support hundreds of cats in our care. The event receives widespread media coverage, increasing attendance, and community awareness.

Hosting an event of this scale comes with costs, and we rely on corporate partners to help offset expenses and ensure that more funds go directly to our mission.

Partner with HART’s Yard Sale and showcase your organization while making a lifesaving impact for cats in need! Sponsorships range from $250 to $5,000, offering valuable exposure through our widely promoted event.

Join us in making a difference—explore sponsorship opportunities on our website today!

This year's Yard Sale will be held August 7-10, 2025. We will begin taking Yard Sale item donations in July. Look for updates in a future e-Mewsletter, on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.
